    We started Origen because families deserved better protection.

    How it started

    One summer. One diagnosis that changed everything.

    "A close friend spent eighteen months misdiagnosed before anyone connected the dots. One tick bite. One afternoon in the backyard. A lifetime managing Lyme disease."

    Origen started in 2022 with a simple, frustrating observation: the best tick protection available to families was still built around DEET, a synthetic compound developed for the US military in 1946. Seventy-five years of scientific progress, and the answer was still the same bottle.

    Our founders, a group of outdoor enthusiasts, parents and formulation researchers, spent two years asking a different question. Not "how do we make DEET more palatable?" but "what does the plant kingdom already know about repelling ticks, and how do we build a formula that actually works?"

    The answer was six actives with centuries of documented use and modern research behind them. Geraniol. Cedarwood. Lemongrass. Rosemary. Thyme. Citronella. Each with a specific, documented role. Each on the EPA Minimum Risk Pesticide list under Section 25(b) of FIFRA.

    The result was Origen Human Defense: a Triple-Phase formula designed for the whole family. No registration required. No synthetic chemistry. No compromise.

    The formula

    Every active in Origen Human Defense is plant-derived and EPA 25(b) exempt. No ingredient is decorative: each has a specific, documented role in the Triple-Phase Defense system.

    Geraniol
    6%
    Primary repellent active. Traditionally associated with disrupting the sensory signals ticks use to locate hosts before approach.
    Citronella Oil
    1%
    Amplifies the repellent effect. Traditionally associated with masking the heat and CO₂ signals that attract ticks and biting insects.
    Cedarwood Oil
    4%
    Contact deterrent on skin and clothing. Traditionally associated with disrupting tick navigation and reducing anchoring behaviour.
    Rosemary Oil
    1.5%
    Strengthens the contact deterrent layer. Traditionally associated with repelling biting insects on direct exposure.
    Lemongrass Oil
    2.5%
    Environmental deterrent for yard and perimeters. Traditionally associated with creating a less favourable environment for ticks outdoors.
    Thyme Oil
    1%
    Reinforces the environmental deterrent action. Traditionally associated with deterring tick presence in treated outdoor spaces over time.
